Toronto Home Addition Renovation
A Toronto home addition: an enlarged eat-in kitchen with an island, plus a new one storey family room built for a couple who entertain.
The problem
It started as a phone call for advice, which turned into the questions we ask on every job: how do you use your home and what are the pain points in it?
The answers were specific. Getting to the powder room was awkward. The front family room was cramped. The kitchen was out of date. They entertain often and had nowhere good to put people.
The solution
An enlarged eat-in kitchen with floor to ceiling cabinetry and a central island and a new one storey family room added to the house. The original family room became a dual-use office. The powder room was redesigned with a pocket door so the approach to it stopped being awkward. Custom millwork went in to display the owners' collections and a linear fireplace with a television finished the gathering space. The family room ceiling was raised, which gives the room air and separates it visually from everything around it.
"We found in Harvey a person with tremendous knowledge about how houses work. He anticipated what needed to be done in the right order." David M.
